Landseer is dog breed, what was in old books named so:
Canis Familiaris Terrae Novae
what means "dog from Newfoundland".

Nowadays, most people think about big black or brown bearlike dogs if to name them Newfoundland dog.
LANDSEER is  separate breed (Landseer ECT).
In some countries LANDSEER is white and black colour variety of the Newfoundland dog.

However, history of the LANDSEER, is history of the dog from Newfoundland and it is exctremely exciting. It is for sure worth for book, but until there is not it, You can read here - here (van Bellandseer site).

We can find paintings and drawings of dogs of type of Landseer already from 16th century. Some are more famous, some are still unknown to most people.
